tea tree oil

By Robyn Alright

Did you know that tea tree oil is extracted from the twigs and the leaves of a tree that is native to Australia?  The botanical name of the tree is Melaleuca Alternifolia and there are over 300 species of tea trees that grow in that area. Thankfully, we do not have to travel all the way to Australia to reap the benefits of this valuable oil! Tea tree oil is widely available and has multiple health and beauty benefits. Here are a few fabulous ways that tea tree oil can be incorporated into your beauty routine.

Hair and Scalp Benefits

Tea tree oil has the ability to remove dandruff and relax dry flaking skin. It also helps to relieve an itchy scalp which is often caused by fungus or bacteria. Tea tree oil has been proven to treat these problems and it may also help with eczema.

Tea tree oil is also used to treat and repel head lice. While it is safe to use on pets, it is not recommended for use on pets or small animals.

Skin Benefits

Tea Tree oil is widely used in the battle against acne because of its anti-bacterial abilities. Its soothing properties helps to calm the skin and prevents flare-ups. This oil may also be used to treat wounds, cuts and other skin infections. It may also aid in the removal of skin tags.  If applied to the affected area several times daily, the skin tag could fall off on its own.

Warning

Tea tree oil is generally considered one of the safer essential oils. It can be used undiluted but depending on your skin type, it may be diluted with a carrier oil like olive oil, sweet almond or coconut oil. Before using tea tree oil, conduct a skin patch test to be sure that you will have no allergic reactions. Tea tree oil should not be taken internally and if you have any concerns, always consult your physician.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant

In all my years, I never thought I would be excited to write about deodorant. Isn’t life filled with pleasant surprises? In my endeavor to find and use more natural beauty products, I’ve come across some disappointing products. This is not the case with Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant.

Schmidt’s does not compromise on quality. Their deodorant does not contain aluminum, parabens or artificial ingredients. Read the label on the back and you will see the product contains items such as coconut oil, jojoba oil and shea butter. Essential oils and natural powders are used to create the most extraordinary scents that your nose has ever inhaled.

I fell for the Rose+Vanilla scent. It smells like angels. Of course, I had to put it through my test. I had an outdoor photo shoot that lasted most of the morning. Running around in the Houston heat, I was sure that I would be foul by the end of the photo shoot. I was pleasantly surprised. I smelled like an angel.

Needless to say, I am now a fan. To learn more about this product, visit https://schmidtsnaturals.com/

DIY Charcoal Face Mask

carbon2222

Introducing the DIY Charcoal Facial Mask! This mask is super easy and effective.  After seeing so much of it on Pinterest and YouTube, I had to give it a try. Charcoal is very beneficial because it detoxifies the skin by drawing out toxins and minimizing pores. Charcoal also fights acne and gently exfoliates the skin.

charcoal5

You will need:
A small plastic container (Yes, I cut down a red Solo cup)
One plastic fork or spoon
White school glue (non-toxic)
Activated charcoal
Makeup brush
Maybe scissors
Warm Towel

Before you begin, be sure that your face is clean. I trust that you know better than to put a beauty mask on over cake face.

Firstly, I took the small plastic container and put about two tablespoons of school glue into it. I then opened six capsules of activated charcoal and emptied the charcoal into the container with the glue. The capsules are easy to open. Just press in the middle and twist. If this proves to be difficult, get some scissors and cut the tip of the capsule. The will easily release the charcoal but. Stir the charcoal and non-toxic glue together until they are well mixed. Add more glue or charcoal until you get the consistency desired. I mixed mine until it was the consistency of yogurt.

Apply to face with makeup brush. Avoid eyes and eyebrows unless you want the Mona Lisa look. You may apply it to your upper lip. Be sure that the layer of mixture that you add to your face is not too thick or too thin. If too thick, it will take forever to dry. If too thin, it may not have a great exfoliating effect.

After a brief walk through a bamboo forest, it was time to take off the mask. It took about 25 min to dry completely. Be sure to start taking the mask off under your chin and work your way up to the forehead. I will warn you that it might hurt a bit to take off. Take your time peeling it off. Once completed, I was surprised that my pores were not as clogged as I thought. I expected to see alien eggs, instead I got peach fuzz.  I could see where it peeled away the clumps of dirt from clogged pores, but it was not as much as I thought it would be. My pores were definitely minimized and my skin felt smooth and soft.

I was pleased with the results and I would certainly do it again!

Testimonial: Calamine Lotion Primer

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on PinterestEmail this to someoneShare on TumblrPrint this page

calamine-cover2

Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for a new makeup primer that was affordable and had ingredients that I could pronounce. Thanks to my good friend, Google, I came across information stating that calamine lotion could be used as a makeup primer. I have to admit that I was a bit surprised as I had never heard of this before (sometimes I live under a rock, figuratively). I did a bit more research and found that this was a fairly common use for calamine lotion.

I’d fallen into the habit of buying expensive primer from major cosmetic brands. As I am becoming more conscious of the ingredients in beauty products, I am making an effort to look for more natural and less expensive alternatives. To say that I was pleased to find this solution is an understatement.  I already had calamine lotion in my medicine cabinet! I knew it was good for skin rashes and breakouts, but never did I imagine it as a makeup primer. I had to give it a try.

calmine-curtainIt is important to note that using calamine lotion as a primer may work best for oily skin. Calamine lotion is a skin protectant and a drying agent. My skin is not super oily, but it can get moderately oily from time to time. The first time I used it, I made a few mistakes. It is imperative to clean and moisturize your skin first! I washed my face and used aloe gel as a moisturizer. Let’s just say that this mix did not work well for me. I think I used too much aloe gel and throughout the day, the gel started to peel just a little bit. I looked like a cute disintegrating zombie!

My second mistake was putting on too much calamine lotion. If felt to smooth and creamy going on; I got a little carried away. When it came time to apply my makeup, it was difficult to cover the pink hue of the lotion. I looked a bit like Beetlejuice! If I ever choose to be a ghost for Halloween, calamine lotion definitely does the trick!

Mistake number three was using a stick foundation. I usually use a stick foundation because I like the coverage. But, it was not a smooth application when putting it on top of calamine lotion. I fixed this by switching to liquid foundation. The liquid foundation worked very well to cover the pink hue of the calamine lotion. It was also a much smoother application.

Over the next few days, I made some adjustments. %100 Cocoa butter replaced aloe gel as my moisturizer. LOVE cocoa butter. I mean really, who doesn’t want their face to smell like chocolate? The cocoa butter loves my face and it worked well beneath the calamine lotion. Additionally, I decreased the amount of calamine lotion by applying a THIN layer. I was able to do this and still get great coverage. The old adage rings true: less is more.

cocoaI got the hang of it, eventually. I can honestly say that using calamine lotion as a primer definitely has my approval! I am so glad that I found this solution. My makeup stays on all day and remains looking fresh. Prior to using calamine lotion, my face would feel a bit yucky towards the end of the day.  I would come home and immediately want to wash my face. Now, I can wear my makeup longer and honestly feel like I don’t have any on! Thank you calamine lotion!

Feel free to give this a try if you like.  Find a moisturizer that works for you and a method of applying your makeup that works with calamine lotion. Please note that everything may not work for everybody. Find what works for you. Before trying anything new, you might want to consult your physician. Safety and common sense comes first!

Stylishly yours,

I believe we often take our hands for granted. From typing to texting, cooking and cleaning, we put our hands through a lot. As the temperature drops, our hands can take a beating. Winter weather is sure to leave our hands ashy, dry and decrepit. Ain’t nobody go time for that! To help you avoid harsh winter hands, below is a DIY hand cream your hands will thank you for!

What You Will Need:
1 teaspoon of cocoa butter
2 teaspoons of beeswax
2 oz of almond oil

Luxurious La Belle Femme

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on PinterestEmail this to someoneShare on TumblrPrint this page

fullsizerender

The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, once stated that “Necessity is the mother of invention.” This statement is definitely true for Angel Cornelius, the founder & CEO of La Belle Femme Products. After failing to find natural products to use for her beauty regimen, Angel turned to her greatest resource, herself. She experimented with pure and simple ingredients to create her own skin and hair moisturizers. After perfecting her formula, she shared her creations with family and friends. It did not take long for her products to take off. And just like that, out of necessity, La Belle Femme was born.

La Belle Femme’s products are undoubtedly amazing. So amazing that Angel’s work attracted the attention of ESSENCE, a premiere fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine. One of her bestselling products, the Pomegranate Kiss Body Butter, was featured in ESSENCE’s March BeautyBox.  Collaborating with this major brand caused her customer base to expand both nationally and internationally within a matter of months.

fullsizerender1It is easy to see why her company has grown so rapidly.  La Belle Femme’s provides all-natural, high quality beauty products for women who are cognizant of the chemicals we absorb through our skin. “Your skin in the largest organ in your body,” says Angel, “It’s also like a sponge in that it absorbs. So when given a choice, try to use natural products. Not all chemicals are bad, but I simply don’t think you need to be a chemist to understand what you put on your skin or hair.” Amen to that.

So, do your skin a favor and try La Belle Femme’s Pomegranate Kiss Body Butter. The texture of this moisturizer is so rich and velvety.  It is absorbed easily and leaves the skin with a smooth finish and noticeable glow. In addition to this, the aroma is simply divine.  Somehow, Angel figured out a way to infuse this moisturizer with the fragrance of heaven!

You should also treat yourself to the Organic Honey and Oatmeal Facial Bar. It is the perfect facial bar because it moisturizes and exfoliates. Ingredients include unfiltered Texas honey and organic whole oats. While it was initially created as a facial bar, many customers use it for their entire body and you can too.

Remember, Angel did not intend to start a business. She simply wanted a solution to her problem. This solution turned a former healthcare administrator (who is over 50 years young) into a “self-taught beautypreneur.” Her amazing story proves that it is never too late to pursue your dreams.

LipSense is Rocky Mae Approved

Tired of your lipstick coming off on wine glasses or the face of your bae?  We found a solution to keep your lipstick where it is supposed to be: on YOUR lips. Introducing LipSense!  This unique product is kiss proof, smudge proof and waterproof.  AND, it can last from 4 to 18 hours!  LipSense lip color includes natural ingredients such as Peony Root, St. Johns Wort and Linden Flower Extract. It is made without GMO’s, is lead free and is not tested on animals. I had to put it to the test.

When applying LipSense, it is important to follow the directions.  Shake the lip color tube and be sure that your lips are dry and clean.  Going in one direction, apply the product from one corner of your lips to the other. Apply one coat and let it dry, then apply two more times allowing the product to dry between each coat. After you apply the third coat and let it dry, you can then apply the LipSense gloss.  Note: only use LipSense gloss! The LipSense  gloss is specifically formulated to help seal in color and moisture. Once you have applied the gloss, rub those lips together and  blow yourself a kiss because you are ready to go!

Upon application, I felt a cooling sensation. Others claimed to have felt a tingling sensation when first applying. After putting on three coats and allowing it to dry, I then applied the LipSense gloss. The gloss made my lips feel silky smooth.  The initial application was made at 4:30 p.m. It lasted well throughout the night and I decided to sleep with it on. The next morning, the color was still there! However, I will say that my lips were a little flaky. Apparently, this is to be expected because the product exfoliates dead skin cells from the lips. The more you wear the product, the flakiness will decrease.

                         Source: Pinterest

LipSense definitely passed the durability test. It stayed on all night and did not come off while I ate dinner and ran my mouth.  But now, it was time to remove LipSense. How are you supposed to take it off when it lasts so long? You should be able to remove LipSense with your normal face wash or makeup remover. However, witch hazel and coconut oil also safely removes the color. I used coconut oil and it came off with a little gentle scrubbing.  If you make a mistake when initially applying the color, there is an Oops! Remover.  This should be used immediately after you have made a mistake.

Over all, LipSense gets a thumbs up!  It comes in a variety of shades and we are sure you can find a color that is great for you. If you want more information, contact our preferred Independent Consultant, Michelle Marcinko.

Happy Kissing!
